The UBU side looks like a TV studio dominated by a large green screen, and dotted with monitors. Behind the audience is a large rectangular fake grass area where the robot armies deploy. The UBU audience has a behind-the-scenes experience. They are served drinks and asked to help with the separate elements of the UBU scenes (live actors, puppets, robots, canned video & film material, games, live camera) that will be composited together and shown to the WOYZECK audience. The UBU audience views surveillance footage of the WOYZECK scenes on some of the monitors.
As the play continues, WOYZECK reveals neediness and suspicion in relationship to Marie. The UBU scenes play into his paranoia, as he watches the casual violence of a MA and PA UBU sitcom, and then listens to the UBUs and McNURE conspiring to kill the king.
